Sexual and Domestic Violence Court Advocate
Safe Harbor is seeking an exceptional bilingual (Spanish), bicultural individual with highly developed advocacy and crisis intervention skills. The Sexual and Domestic Violence Court Advocate is responsible for providing client-centered crisis intervention, safety planning, supportive counseling, case management, and referrals for child and adult survivors of violence who are seeking protective orders or other legal assistance. The Court Advocate works primarily in the Henrico County courts.
The Court Advocate works as a member of the Client Advocacy Team and shares on-call responsibilities for client operations in the emergency shelter, community counseling office, and local emergency rooms. Some evening, weekend, and holiday hours required. The Advocate reports directly to the Executive Director.
This person will update client and agency records daily; provide regular reports and evaluate outcomes; participate in the training and supervision of interns and volunteers; cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with allied professionals; and represent Safe Harbor at designated meetings, presentations, and events.
This person will work with people of various ethnic, racial, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and is expected to deliver agency services and initiatives in a culturally sensitive manner. This person must be able to remain patient, calm, and professional when working in crisis situations.

The ideal candidate has three or more years experience in providing advocacy and crisis intervention to survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and can demonstrate knowledge about the civil and criminal justice systems. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. The candidate must be able to: use Microsoft Office applications; successfully adapt to changing circumstances; act independently; contribute to the work of a team; and communicate with excellence. The candidate must have reliable transportation.
This is a full-time grant-funded position. The compensation is $41,000 with excellent benefits. The candidate selected for employment must successfully complete a background check.
