Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance

Hotline Crisis Services Specialist (Posted: 4/18/12)

The Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance, Virginia’s statewide coalition addressing sexual and domestic violence, seeks to hire a part-time staff position to provide culturally competent crisis intervention services.

Duties and Responsibilities
This position requires a bilingual (Spanish/English), (bicultural  preferred) applicant who will respond to and document calls to the Virginia Family Violence and Sexual Assault Hotline; provide effective and timely services to Sexual and Domestic Violence Advocacy Agencies; maintain and expand the hotline database of information and referrals; and provide general support to the Statewide Hotline. Training will be provided in the areas of: dynamics of domestic and sexual violence, crisis intervention, active listening, supportive counseling, risk assessment, safety planning, intersections of oppression and violence, legal advocacy, and resource identification/development. Limited statewide travel is required for training.

Position Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English.
  • Experience as a volunteer, student intern, or staff in a Sexual Assault Crisis Center or Domestic Violence Program is preferred; however, extensive training will be offered for this position.
  • Solid organizational skills, computer literacy, and a basic knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault and the work of Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance.

Salary
This position is an hourly non-exempt position that will be scheduled for 20 hours per week during the hours of 8am through 8pm earning $14-$18 per hour.

Prevention Community of Practice Coordinator (Posted: 4/18/12)

The Action Alliance is a social justice organization that is committed to a public health model of prevention and is currently implementing and evaluating many exciting initiatives throughout Virginia. Some of these initiatives include the nationally recognized Red Flag Campaign (www.TheRedFlagCampaign.org), a teen dating violence prevention campaign, and a set of new tools specifically designed for African American youth. In addition, the Action Alliance provides technical assistance to a variety of innovative prevention programs throughout the state; therefore, we are seeking an individual with leadership skills that include good communication, flexibility, organization, and team work.

The Prevention Community of Practice Coordinator works closely with local agencies, statewide partners and national partners to support the effective development and delivery of prevention initiatives at the local level.  These initiatives include sexual violence prevention projects funded by the Virginia Department of Health, intimate partner violence projects that are part of a CDC funded “DELTA” program, and independent prevention initiatives within community agencies and educational settings.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate a Prevention Community of Practice: Promotes a Community of Practice through regular communications with community Sexual and Domestic Violence Agency prevention advocates; develops and distributes specialized resources to support prevention work; plans and delivers trainings focused on the needs of prevention advocates. Ensures that Virginia’s prevention initiatives reach across demographics, cultures and geography.
  • Coordinate local DELTA projects: Coordinates regular meetings, technical assistance calls and on-site trainings for local DELTA projects; provides technical assistance and support specific to meeting the DELTA project objectives.  Works with the Empowerment Evaluator to ensure that local project design includes effective evaluation components. Participates in the national DELTA collaborative as the DELTA Projects Coordinator.

This is a full-time exempt salaried position requiring a flexible schedule. The starting salary range is $40-46k/year. The position requires regular statewide and national travel and requires extensive experience in the public health approach to primary prevention. We are seeking candidates with experience in prevention program development, community mobilization, excellent writing and communication skills, and computer literacy.
