Shop Still It Stops (STIS)
For two decades, Marshall's Department has been committed to the prevention of domestic violence. During the month of October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness month, Marshalls' Shop Still It Stops program donates $1 for every pair of shoes purchased (up to $150,000) to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. This organization works for the prevention of domestic violence and supports those who are affected. Since the program's inception, more than $1 million has been donated to this important cause. On October 6, 2012 Hanover Safe Place will host its 14th Annual Pumpkin Run, a race to end domestic and sexual violence. Hanover Safe Place provides services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in Hanover County and the Town of Ashland. The Pumpkin Run will be held at the Ashland Berry Farm, in Beaver dam, the Pumpkin Run is a 5k trail run through the pumpkin patches. Participants can choose from the following events: 5k run, 5k walk, or 1 mile fun walk. Included in the Kid's Fun Area this year will be face painting, popcorn, son-cones and more, all for free! Registration is open on site until 8:30am on October 6th.

The YWCA of Richmond hosts Remember My Name, a nondenominational memorial services that commemorates men, women, and children in the Greater Richmond and surrounding communities who have lost their lives as a result of domestic violence every October during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This year, the 17th Annual Remember My Name will be held on October 25th at 7:00 PM at the Monument Heights Baptist Church and will serve as an opportunity for anyone interested to gather as a community that is dedicated to eliminating domestic violence.

October 18, 2012 (7PM-8:30PM) The Laurel Center's 21st Annual Candlelight Vigil - The Laurel Center presents a night to remember to those lost to intimate partner violence and honor those who have survived. There will be music, an open mic to give people the chance to speak, and poems read by volunteers. Additionally, there will be a special interactive art project, the Clothesline Project, and the Silent Witness Display.
