SUMMARY:Legislative Advocacy Day 2022
DESCRIPTION:We’re thrilled that you’ve decided to join us for our annual Legislative Advocacy Day on Wednesday\, February 2nd\, 2022!  It’s always an amazing experience to see survivors\, advocates\, and movement partners roaming the (virtual and physical) halls of the General Assembly\, lifting the voices of survivors and advocating for policies that seek to respond to and prevent violence in our communities.   \nPolicy leaders want to hear from you\, the advocacy experts\, about how investments in primary prevention\, reducing workplace/sexual harassment\, and expanding best practices in trauma-informed and healing-centered responses to violence can save lives and help to create a Virginia where all families and individuals can fully thrive. Your voice as an advocacy expert is critical to ensuring that Virginia policy works for all survivors and all communities!  \nIf you plan to attend Legislative Advocacy Day in person\, we ask that you only do so if you are fully vaccinated + boostered and that you practice safe masking and distancing as able. If you can’t make it in-person for Legislative Advocacy Day\, don’t worry\, we’ll send you everything you need to participate in virtual legislative actions that are happening statewide! Just make sure you select “Virtual Legislative Advocacy ONLY” in your registration choice.  \nPlease note that scheduling visits with your legislators is done on your own and in advance! You can begin reaching out to schedule visits now. The earlier the better. SUMMARY:Training For A Just World
DESCRIPTION:In 2019 the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance (Action Alliance) adopted a new vision statement. We seek a radically hopeful future where: \n\npeople are free and have what they need to reach their full potential; \nrelationships\, families\, and communities are healthy\, equitable\, nourishing\, and joyful; \ngovernment\, institutions\, and systems are rooted in equity and justice; \nall decisions are grounded in whether they will benefit our future descendants and sustain our beautiful earth. \n\nThe Action Alliance has designed this training to accelerate our collective capacity to bring this vision into being. Every time that we bring people together\, we have an opportunity to plant seeds for a just world for everyone. This experience offers space to reflect and practice ways to cultivate the soil to make way for strong roots\, plant the seeds\, nourish existing seeds so that they grow\, and ease out any unhealthy plants we may discover along the way. Each immersion event is designed for 24 people \nTogether for a Just World: Planting the Seeds for Thriving Communities is a complimentary two-day training immersion experience designed for sexual and domestic violence advocates and preventionists\, social justice warriors\, and organizers working to end violence and build peaceful\, just communities. The training will be held Dec. 6-8. Interested in participating? Applicants must apply in pairs and submit their joint application by Oct. 22. (NOTE: Deadline extended to October 29!) Pairs should include individuals from different backgrounds and with different roles in the work to build a more just world.  \nThis three day\, two night training includes all meals\, a single room\, and the chance to step away from the demands of our daily lives and the interruptions of calls\, chats\, emails\, and meetings.  \nPlease note that all applicants must be vaccinated against COVID-19 by the time of the training. Masks will be required in all indoor group settings.  \nIf your work includes educating people in your community\, training new advocates and organizers\, facilitating groups\, creating social media\, policy advocacy for equity and justice\, or experimenting with new ways of promoting strong\, healthy and thriving systems\, we encourage you and a partner to apply.  \n WHERE: TBD \nDATES: December 6-8\, 2021 \nCOST: Free \nTo apply for this training\, you may download the application or print it out: Training For A Just World Application \nFor more information or to ask further questions\, please email training@vsdvalliance.org
