After 40+ years as a leader and rabble rouser in Virginia’s movement to end sexual and intimate partner violence, our beloved Ruth Micklem (and Addie too!) is retiring at the end of June 2025. While there’s no adequate way to express our love and admiration for her, here’s a good place to start:

Give to Ruth’s movement history project

Ruth’s retirement wish is to fund a project to create an official history of the sexual and domestic violence movement in Virginia. At a time when vital health, advocacy, and movement information is being erased from public view, this project will pull together archival data, oral histories, and organizational/institutional knowledge to create a comprehensive movement history – with the hopes of making this information available and accessible for current and future generations of peacemakers and advocates!

Please consider giving to this important effort to preserve our movement history in Virginia and to send Ruth off with a “hurrah!”. Secure donations can be made below. Checks can be mailed to Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance, P.O. Box 4342 Richmond, VA 23220 (in the “note” section please indicate for “Ruth’s retirement”)
