Information We Collect and How We Use It

This Privacy Statement primarily reflects Action Alliance practices but also indicates where information may be collected by third-party services. The Action Alliance may collect information that you choose to provide about yourself along with information that is automatically collected when you access and navigate the Site. We use this data for purposes such as sending subscription-based emails, processing financial transactions, and understanding how people use our Site.

Simply put: By using our website, we collect some information about you—some of it is provided by you when/if you fill out a form, and other information is shared automatically by the technology you’re using. This statement tells you what information is collected, where it’s stored, and what we do with it.

Personal Information

Personal Information may include your name, address, email address and other information from which your identity is or may be discernible. We collect Personal Information from you when you sign up to become a member of the Action Alliance, make a donation, register to attend an event or training, subscribe to our email lists, or use our contact form. Donations and payment information, email information for listservs, membership contact information, and event registration information may also be stored on the servers of our third-party service providers, SalsaLabs and CardPointe.

Your Personal Information allows us to:

  • communicate with you through newsletters, announcements, and email listservs;
  • process donations or payments;
  • register you for trainings or events;
  • respond to your inquiries;
  • provide information about our services; and
  • resolve problems.

Simply put: When you fill out a form through our website, you provide us with your name, address, email address, and other information by answering the questions on the form. That information is also saved by SalsaLabs and CardPointe. These are companies we pay to process credit card payments and provide a database of people who use our services, receive our emails, buy our resources, and attend our events.

Log Data and Cookies

In addition, when you visit our Site, we automatically collect certain information and analytical data related to your use of the Site and Services. Log Data may include your Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, the date and time of your visit, the pages on which you click, and information about your web browser (collectively, “Log Data”). We use this information to monitor and analyze use of the Site and Services, to increase our Site’s functionality and user-friendliness to better tailor it to our visitors’ needs, and for the Site’s technical administration. Log Data information will not be compared, associated, or combined with Personal Information you share with us; however, log data, such as IP Address, by itself, may be personally identifiable information.

Like many websites, we use cookies, simple text files stored on your computer web browser to identify your computer when it accesses our Site. If you are a user who has been granted access to the private side (“Member Login” section) of the Site, we use cookies to identify your registration ID and login password so you can access the Site. We may also use cookies to assist in data collection and to analyze visitor Site usage and trends to help us better serve you. Most browsers allow you to reject cookies; however, if your web browser rejects cookies, some areas of the Site may not have full functionality.

Simply put: We want to make sure we’re providing useful information in a way that is helpful to you. We collect some information about when, from where, and how you look at our website to know which pages are most visited and how. This helps us find ways to make our website better for you. This information (technically called “Log data” and “cookies”) is provided by the technology you’re using and isn’t something you fill out in a form.

Security and Sharing Data

While no website can guarantee security, we have implemented appropriate administrative, technical, and physical security procedures to help protect the Personal Information you provide to us. Staff must have an account and password to access website content, and access levels are determined by the role and responsibility of the staff. This Site is hosted on Pantheon, whose security measures are available on their website. Information submitted via some forms is transmitted via email and stored on this website. Any email or other communication requesting your password, asking you to provide sensitive account information via email, or linking to a website that does not link to this Policy should be treated as unauthorized and suspicious and should be reported to the Action Alliance website team immediately via webmaster [at] vsdvalliance [dot] org.

Simply put: We’ve tried hard to protect your information, but no system is perfect. If you get any emails, letters, calls, or texts asking for your password or other personal information that connects to a website that doesn’t include this Statement, please tell us immediately. We won’t ask for that information.

Personal Information

We do not sell Personal Information of our users to anyone outside of the Action Alliance. We may disclose Personal Information to appropriate affiliates and third-party service providers to provide you with Services. For example, we may share names and addresses of our members to use third-party service providers to send out mailings.

We will not share Personal Information of individuals seeking services, information, or referrals for services with any affiliates or third-party service providers, without a written, informed, and time-limited consent to release of information.

Simply put: We do not sell your information to anyone. We may provide it to another company or organization we work with to do something for you or to mail you information, but we will not sell your information. We will also never share the personal information of someone seeking our support services without you telling us to.

Compliance with Laws and Legal Process

We may disclose your information to government, law enforcement, or other parties when appropriate only to protect our rights, to cooperate in investigations of fraud or other illegal or inappropriate activity, or in response to a court order or other comparable legal process. We will make reasonable efforts to contact the user(s) before providing information to the party that requests it. We will also make all reasonable efforts to maintain confidentiality of survivor information, if it is known to us as such, in accordance with our obligations under confidentiality laws.

Simply put: We will do our best to protect the confidentiality of survivors above all else. If we have to under the law, we may share your information with the government or police. We will try to contact you before giving that information.

Opting Out

While we may need Personal Information for certain Services, you can always “opt-out” of accessing those Services. Users are welcome to unsubscribe from notifications at any time, and donors can donate anonymously by mailing us a cashier’s check through the mail.

Simply put: If you don’t want to share certain information with us, you don’t have to use our services. For example, at any time, you can unsubscribe from our email lists or choose to donate anonymously by sending us a cashier’s check through the mail.

Update Your Information

You can update the Personal Information we have about you at any time by contacting us using one of the methods described in the “Contact Information” section below.

Third-Party Services and Links to Other Sites

Our site includes links to other websites (“Third-Party Sites”). The fact that we link to a website is not an endorsement, authorization or representation of an affiliation with that third party, nor is it an endorsement of that third party’s privacy or information security policies or practices. We do not exercise control over third-party websites. These other websites may place their own cookies or other files on your computer, collect data, or solicit personal information from you. Please be aware that when you enter a third-party site, any information you provide is subject to the terms of use and privacy policy of that third-party site.

Simply put: Because we link to another website, that does not mean we endorse that other website or company or its privacy and security policies. We cannot control their websites and servers. When you use their websites, you agree to follow their privacy rules, which may be different from our privacy rules.

Donations and Payments

You can donate funds to or purchase products from the Action Alliance to support our mission. The Action Alliance uses third-party affiliates, Salsa Labs, CardPointe, WooCommerce, and Stripe to collect and process donations and payments. To make this possible, your name, billing address, and donation amount are shared via secure (encrypted) means with this third-party payment processor for the sole purpose of completing your order. Salsa Labs and WooCommerce collect your Personal Information and make that information available to the Action Alliance for us to send you a receipt. Your credit card information (number, expiration date, security code) is provided directly to and collected by CardPointe or Stripe. The Action Alliance does not retain or see full credit card information through the Site. It is important to review the privacy policy of the third-party affiliate and credit card processor prior to providing this information to see if their privacy policy is acceptable to you. Although all donated funds will be routed back to the Action Alliance, the terms of processing your donation will be based on the agreement between you and such designated payment service provider and not an agreement between you and the Action Alliance.

Simply put: You can support the Action Alliance’s mission by making a donation or by buying products through our website. We use Salsa Labs, CardPointe, WooCommerce, and Stripe to collect and process credit card transactions. If you’re concerned about your privacy, please read their policies, too.
