Principles of Primary Prevention

Primary prevention strategies are designed to promote healthy behaviors and communities by shifting attitudes, behaviors, and norms that support and perpetuate the root causes of violence. This interactive training offers an introduction to the public health approach to primary prevention and will delve into key concepts underlying this work, including risk and protective factors, resilience, and health promotion. This training highlights promising practices from the field and includes an overview of Fostering Community Resilience: Virginia’s Guidelines for the Primary Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence, which is used by sexual and domestic violence agencies throughout Virginia and across the country. Participants will walk away with the tools to build their own primary prevention program.

Please note that registration is from 9:30 – 10:00 with the training starting promptly at 10. Please leave yourself time to arrive and park so we can start on time. This is a long training so please feel free to dress comfortably.
