Del. Charniele Herring to Be Recognized With HOPE Award

Each year, the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance hosts Act. Honor. Hope., an event that honors leaders and community members who have taken extraordinary action to bring about the necessary change to end sexual and domestic violence. We recognize individuals and groups who have gone above and beyond to support the development of safe, healthy, and thriving communities across the Commonwealth.

This year, the Action Alliance honors Delegate Charniele Herring (D-Alexandria) with the HOPE Award. In addition to recently stepping into the roles of House Majority Leader and Chair of the House Courts of Justice Committee of the Virginia General Assembly, Del. Herring answered the call of sexual and domestic violence advocates and preventionists in 2020 to sponsor and successfully champion HB 1015 – a bill to establish the first-ever sexual and domestic violence prevention fund in Virginia.

As a member of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus, Del. Herring has also been instrumental in the ongoing development of policy platforms and strategies to advance racial justice, housing justice, criminal justice reform, and recognizing the needs of Black and Brown survivors of state and interpersonal violence in Virginia.

Thank you, Del. Herring, for all that you do to support survivors and for your efforts to help prevent violence before it occurs!

Act. Honor. Hope. is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible work that has been accomplished this year, in spite of a global pandemic, join with advocates and allies from across Virginia, and raise the necessary funds to continue this critical work.

Act. Honor. Hope. will be held on December 4 from 6-8pm. Due to COVID-19, this event will be hosted online and take on a different form from prior Act. Honor. Hope. events. This year’s event provides registrants the opportunity to choose their own adventure and participate in one of three activities: Paint Night, Trivia Night, or Virtual Happy Hour. Learn more here.

Proceeds from the event support the policy, prevention, and advocacy efforts of the Action Alliance. We hope you will join us and invite a friend– from near or far! Purchase your tickets here by Nov. 30, 2020.
