Training and Support

As advocates and activists working to respond to and prevent sexual and intimate partner violence, we know that our work is never static. The Action Alliance believes that all of us have something to teach, just as all of us have something to learn.
The Action Alliance Training Institute works continually to keep our training curricula current, relevant, and ever evolving as we grow and change with evolving best practices and the wisdom gained through our collective learned experience.

The Action Alliance delivers trainings for professionals who respond to or seek to prevent sexual and intimate partner violence. Our trainings are designed to build empathy and create intention to shape a world in which people, relationships, and communities are liberated, healthy, equitable, and just. They are interactive and collaborative, and we often use these spaces for skill building and sharing because we know that our training participants hold knowledge and expertise in this field and movement that we can all learn from. Trainings at the Action Alliance are created to inspire learning, growth, and imagination for anyone who wants to be a brave agent of change. We strive to make all our trainings accessible. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or needs you have in order to attend one of our trainings!
Accessibility
Parking: Free parking is located on the street and in the Gold’s Gym parking lot behind our building. There are two handicap spots available in the lot. For all in-person trainings and scheduled meetings, attendees will be given a parking pass that is required for using the parking lot.
The Training Space: There are two wide steps required to enter the building through the front doors. Please let us know if you are unable to use steps/stairs and we can coordinate entry to the space using another door. Please note that the entrance without steps is closer to the parking lot, but further away from the meeting space and would require moving through hallways and using a ramp. The training room is equipped with rolling tables and chairs without arms. Participants can adjust the height of the chairs, but tables are not adjustable in this way. Overhead fluorescent lighting is primarily used to illuminate the space. Our offices are not currently scent-free. Our offices are not currently scent-free. When walking around our offices, visitors may notice artwork from the “Art of Surviving” collection that depicts experiences of healing from sexual violence.
Bathrooms: Bathrooms are single-user, accessible spaces. There is one bathroom in the training center, and another is available on the administrative side of the office.
Language: Currently, our programs and trainings are presented in spoken and written English. Interpretation into languages other than English is available upon request and requires several weeks to secure. Portable interpreting equipment is available for groups using the training space that provide spoken language interpretation. Please let us know of any language accessibility needs
Food: When the Action Alliance provides food for training, we strive to meet all dietary needs. Please let us know of any restrictions you may have so we can make the necessary arrangements. Please also let us know about any food-based allergies you may have so we can inform our staff and other participants to refrain from bringing snacks that may cause an allergic reaction.
Animals: The Action Alliance office is pet-friendly and often has dogs (and occasionally cats) in the space. If, for any reason, you do not feel comfortable sharing space with animals, please let us know and we can make arrangements for pets to be left at home and the space cleaned before your training.
Questions: If you have any questions or concerns about the accessibility of our space, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Events Coordinator at training@vsdvalliance.org.
The Action Alliance provides Trainings on Request (TOR) to our members and allied organizations with adapted and specialized curriculum to meet their unique needs. TORs may be delivered by Action Alliance staff or Training Institute Faculty members.

As a coalition, one of the primary ways we can support our members, allies, and people in our community is through Technical Assistance (TA). TA can look a lot of different ways: an e-mail, a phone call, or an on-site visit to provide more in-depth support and conversation. Action Alliance staff provide TA because we believe in the day-to-day work of our members; we want to provide resources that help you build your capacity to better serve survivors, implement prevention strategies, provide visionary and strategic leadership in your agency and make meaningful change in your community and across Virginia as a whole.
For TA via a quick phone call or e-mail, contact our staff and a someone will get back to you soon.
Please fill out the Request TA form below to request an on-site TA, and a staff member will get back to you within three business days! We are happy to provide TA to all people and organizations invested in our movement and work. Due to capacity, on-site TA visits are often reserved for our membership.
